Richard Tompkins who established the Green Shield Saving Stamp Stamp Catalogue in the UK converted his company so that it would acept cash payments instead of savings stamps and rebranded the Green Shield Stamps Catalogue shops as Argos in July 1973.

Argos Catalogue

Argos publishes a new Argos catalogue twice a year ( one in January and another in July). Currently editions contain over 1500 listing over 36,000 products, each with photograph, description, price and catalogue number. The store Argos catalogue is almost identical to that of the published catalogue.


Argos Delivery Service

Argos home service, get as many items as you like delivered to your door.

  • Online: find your products on Argos website, add them to trolley and choose " buy for home del". Go through the "checkout" process.
  • By telephone: call 0845-640-2020 between the hours of 8am to 8pm, any day including Sundays.
  • In store: Argos sales assistants will take your order at any of the tills (not kiosks).
    Deliveries can be anywhere in the mainland UK and Northern Ireland**

If there's no one at home when Argos deliver, in most cases they can leave items in a safe place or with a neighbour. Argos will ask for special instructions during checkout and you can specify your requirements.. They will leave a note as to where they have left your order.

  • If you have ordered several big items they may have different lead times. We will deliver all of your items together within the longest time shown to be delivered*.

From Argos Straight to your room...
Most bigger items can usually be delivered directly to the room you choose. Ensure that hallways, doorways and stairs are measured beforehand to make sure your products will fit. For items marked as 2 day - this service is not available.

Combination of large & small itemsTo get your products to you as soon as possible, orders with a mixture of large and small items will arrive on separate deliveries but you will pay only one charge. Check your order acknowledgement for information.

Argos 2 Day Express service - Our express delivery service is available on selected products including some large kitchen appliances. These items can be identified as they include "Express" in the product name. These items will usually be delivered within 2 working days (excluding Sundays and Bank Holidays) subject to stock availability. Some express items are only available to order in-store or by calling 0845 640 2020. Please see individual product page for details.

All deliveries to Northern Ireland take an additional day.

Unfortunately Argos cannot offer this service to remote areas of the UK (Scottish Highlands and Islands).

Delivery, Install and Recycle Service

This Argos service is available on selected kitchen appliances and is subject to stock availability and location. These items include "Recycle your old appliance", "Deliver Recycle" or "Deliver, Install & Recycle" on the product details page.

The price of this service is included in the price shown on the website. An additional charge of £(see Argos website) will be added to your order (Excludes Hotpoint & Indesit)

If your order includes several items which are a combination of Deliver, Install & Recycle products and standard items, deliveries will be made separately and a delivery charge will be charged for the standard items.

If you have ordered this service please ensure you take the following steps prior to delivery and connection of your new appliance.

  • Check there is enough space for your new appliance to fit into
  • Check there is enough room for your appliance to fit through your doors
  • Existing utility connections need to be accessible and within 1m of the new appliance, this includes an electrical socket as we are not able to do any remedial plumbing or electrical work.
    Connection of Cookers
  • This service is only available on selected cooking appliances which are clearly marked Connection and must be on a like for like basis (i.e electric cooker for electric cooker, gas for gas)
  • If you choose this service we will disconnect your old appliance prior to connecting your new appliance. Your new cooker will then be delivered ready for an engineer to connect.
  • Argos are only able to connect cooking appliances where there is a supply of natural gas, we are unable to connect any appliance where there is an LPG or Calor Gas supply. Due to this in Northern Ireland we are only able to offer this service on selected gas cookers.
    Connection of Washing Machines, Dishwashers and Fridge Freezers
  • Connection can only take place if your old appliance has been disconnected and emptied of water.
  • If this is the first time that your property has had either a dishwasher or a washing machine/dryer connected, you will need to check you have suitable pipe work in place.
  • If we are unable to connect your appliance due to one of these checks not taking pace we will not be able to refund your delivery and connection charge. This of course does not affect your statutory rights.

A great way to check stock, the latest prices and reserve products at your local Argos store. Over 15,000 products available to reserve.Check & Reserve is available on all items marked 'Can be reserved'. If in stock, they will be available for immediate collection and held until the end of the next working day.

Step 3: Check stockEnter your postcode or store name so that we can let you know if your items are in stock at your nearest store. If the item is out of stock we will show whether it's in-stock at any of your 10 nearest stores. If it is still out of stock there is an option to check stock in another area completely.

Step 4: ReserveEnter your email address and select 'Place reservation' to reserve your items at your chosen store. We'll then give you a unique number for your reservation.

Argos Returns and Refunds

Argos are committed to selling productsof a high quality but we know that, for one reason or another, you may want to return or exchange an item you have purchased.

Upon receipt of your goods please check that you have received the correct item and that it is undamaged. Please make sure that you check your items carefully before they are used or installed. Argos also recommend that your receipt or order number, found on your order confirmation or packaging, this may be required as proof of purchase in the event of any after sales questions.

If you change your mind

Within 30 days

  • Most things Argos sell are covered by the Argos thirty day money-back guarantee, items must be returned to Argos in an unused condition, in the original undamaged packaging in a saleable condition. Enclose the correct receipt and a refund will be made..
  • Proof of purchase will suffice if you lose your receipt, as long as you have proof of purchase the the item can be exchanged or a refund made with Argos vouchers.
  • To return an item delivered by Argos, simply call Argos on 08456 400 800 and unless the delivery note says otherwise we'll collect it free of charge. Your Argos order number will count as your receipt.
  • Unfortunately, some items like foot spas, dental products, and earrings cannot be exchanged or refunded for safety and hygiene reasons, this is ofcourse unless the are faulty.
  • Argos are also unable to accept returns on some non-faulty recording and imaging products such as digital cameras and MP3 players. This is to protect your personal security.
  • Important note: All video games consoles are excluded from the Argos 30 day money back guarantee. Please ensure you read the specification on the box before installation. Video gaming software cannot be accepted back under the 30 day money back guarantee if the package has been opened and the plastic wrapping is unsealed - this does not affect your statutory rights
  • If a product is excluded from the Argos 30-day money-back guarantee, it is clearly marked by a † next to the product name in the catalogue and on this website.
  • If your product(s) have qualified for a free Argos voucher/Argos giftcard and you return them under our 30-day-money-back-guarantee, the free Argos voucher/Argos gift card must be returned. Argos have made it easier!

  • Take it back to Argos, with your proof of purchase within 30 days and Argos will give you a
    replacement or a refund.
  • If you've had the product for up to one year, Argos will have the product repaired or, if a repair is not possible, Argos will give you a replacement or if a replacement is not possible, then a refund.
  • Please note that all Argos large kitchen appliances are excluded from Argos normal 30 day guarantee, but if your item develops a fault within 30 days, call Argos on 0845 640 0800 and one of the Argos advisors will assist you with your problem. If your appliance is faulty and if it not possible for Argos to have it repaired then Argos will arrange a replacement free of charge or you can opt for a refund.

Argos Video Games Trade In

Pre-owned games are available to buy online.

  • A trade-in service for video games is available in all Argos UK stores.
  • You may trade-in selected Nintendo DS, Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 games for an Argos voucher that you can spend in any Argos store. Vouchers over £20 are possible.
  • There is no limit on how many games you can trade-in but you are limited to only one copy of each game.
  • Keep an eyeon the range of video games that Argos trade-in.
  • You ca use your Argos voucher as part or complete payment for any purchase n an Argos store..
Argos have to comply with age restrictions on certain products, by law. Proof of age may be required in store if there is an age restriction on a product . Argos accept as suitable identfication photo driving licenc, passport or a proof of age card provided by your local authority bearing the "PASS" hologram. This is for both your protection and for Argos staff.Although all pre-owned games will be supplied in their original boxes, the condition of the boxes and the contents, e. disc, instruction manual or case etc. will not be in pristine condition. In some cases the instructions for a particular game will be missing. Every cartrdge or disc is inspected and checked to ensure that it works before it is put on sale as a pre-owned item. If however, the pre-owned game or cartridge does not work it may be returned to Argos for a full refund. All pre-owned games come with a thirty day money back guarantee If you purchase a pre-owned catridige it may contain saved games made by the previous owner, these can easily be deleted. Pre-owned video games cannot at this time be reserved online for collection. This however may change in the future.   1. Argos will accept original games for Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Xbox360, and PlayStation III, games.
  2. Every traded-in game must be in fully working condtion and have a complete instruction booklet in satisfactory condition. Argos will check that the game is genuine. Argos reserve the right to decline acceptance of any game thought to be of substandard quality. The store managers decision as to the aformentioned is final.
  3. The law requires that for any traded in game your name and address is recorded. This is solely for Her Majesties Revenue and Customs and will not be used for marketing purposes .
  4. The trade in value quoted in promotional material or on the Argos website is for quidance only and is subject to change ona daily basis. For an uptodate value on a game, check the "Which games" section on the Argos website or ask in a participating store.
  5. Argos reserve the right to stop accepting certain games for trade-in at any time.
  6. Argos reserves the right to amend or alter the value of the gift voucher offered as a trade in value.
  7. Imported games will not be accepted.
  8. Argos will only accept trade in games from customers dealing with Argos as a consumer and if Argos suspect that you are operating on a commercial basis they will refuse to trade with you.
  9. Argos reserve the right to refuse to accept multiple copies of the same game or stock believed to have been sourced through a trade buyer.
  10. The gift voucher can be used as full or part payment against any product on sale at Argos and cannot be used for online or telephone purchases. The gift voucher must be spent within 3 years of issue.

 

Distance Selling Regulations

These regulations apply not just to Argos but to all online retailers

If you have ordered by telephone or internet, under the Distance Selling Regulations, you have a statutory right to cancel your order and receive a full refund for any home delivery item (excluding those ordered in-store). This does not apply to items personalised or made to your specification; audio/video recordings or software that you have unsealed; items that due to their nature cannot be returned; perishable goods (e.g. food, flowers and periodicals/magazines).

To cancel, you can email Argos customer services, call 0845 640 2020 or write to Customer Services within seven working days (so not including Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays) commencing the day after the day of delivery of your item(s), quoting your order number. You must take reasonable care of the item(s).

Item(s) may be returned to an Argos store or Argos can arrange collection free of charge (unless otherwise stated on the delivery note).

You may cancel an order for services in the same way, within seven working days (so not including Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays) of the date of purchase, unless the services begin sooner. You may not however cancel accommodation, transport or leisure services which occur on a specific date.

The Distance Selling Regulations do not apply to Financial and Insurance Services.
